The Big Picture Of Keywords
To start off with keywords are basically anything that is typed into a search engine. Literally everything thing people search for on the internet through a search engine is referred to as a keyword whether it is search one million times a year or one single time a year.
When building a website you have to either get your traffic from return reader, search engines, and paid advertising. If you are not found by one of those methods you simply will get no visitors to your website. If you are getting no visitors that means you will not make any money.
Paid advertising is not how you want to get visitors. The simple and obvious reason is you have to pay for it. Another reason that most people do not understand, especially those who drive traffic to their website through paid advertising, is that it can not come close to giving you the amount of traffic the search engines can. That traffic is 100% free so forget paid advertising.
Return readers can be a huge source of traffic. The only problem with obtaining return readers is that a reader has to find your site to be able to return to it. What im saying is if you are never found by anybody you will not have any return readers and will still have not traffic. That sounds simple yet many people do not understand it.
By obtaining free traffic from the search engines you are able to get a steady flow of new visitors every day with the chance of converting them into return readers who love your website. After that you can monetize those visitors and collect 100%. The only way you can do this is by obtaining heaps of free traffic.
Enough about paid advertising, return readers, and free search engine traffic and how it relates to the overall goal of making money with a website.
To get that free traffic that I have talked about so far you must familiarize yourself with keywords. Each page you create for a website must be centered around a keyword. That way when someone searches for that keyword the engines take that visitor to your site for free. Once that visitor is at your website you can monetize them meaning make money off them even without making them spend money. Im not going to go into detail about that in this article.
Once you have created multiple KFCP or Keyword Focused Content Pages you can start to drive massive traffic to your website for free because you will be being found by tons of people search for information that is relevant to your website. When you create a keyword focused content page you will recieve tons of traffic from those keywords you focus on plus all the roots of it.
If you create a web page that is not focused, optimized, and primed for a specific high traffic or medium you are essentially wasting your time because people looking for what you are writing about will not find you. For example if I was to write this page about "choosing keywords" and only include that phrase in the title I would be wasting my time.
The reason is the search engines will not know what my page is about by only looking at the title. The title is one of six components that need to be optimized and include my keyword in it. Beginners are incredibly bad about titling a page and expecting it to rank high in search engines when someone types that exact phrase in. The title is a small piece of the pie.
That is why when search for things you see all kinds of results in the top 10 that do not have the same title as the phrase that you typed into the engine. The engine does not crawl the web and look for pages with that title, then rank those pages. That is not how it happens.
The search engines crawl an immense amount of pages and the ones that include the keyword search phrase in the title, page body, description, file name, headline, and text links are the ones that end up in the top 10 on the results page. Simply titling your page appropriately will not work. When choosing keywords you have to optimize your page appropriately to get high rankings for the keywords you choose.
How To Find Keywords
When choosing keywords for your webpages the first step is to find them. Like mentioned earlier everything that is typed into a search engine is considered a keyword. However, keywords that are searched less than 25 times a day are not considered a stable keyword or a keyword that offers any potential for traffic and income.
So when you are looking for keywords the ones that are searched less than 25 times a day are essentially irrelevant and will not appear on keywords searches that you perform using the some free tools I am going to mention later. Basically if a keyword is searched less than 25 times a day it is still considered a keyword but is essentially irrelevant.
Before worrying about choosing keywords you will need to compile a list of keywords relevant to your site topic. Only from there can you choose to best keywords that present you with the most traffic and income. When talking about websites traffic is money. To compile a large list of keywords you can use a host of free tools available on the internet
Free Tools That Will Help You Get Keyword Ideas
Google Keyword Tool
This is a great tool to get ideas for possible keywords. Google has made this tool so useful because you have the option to search for keywords that are direct roots of the word you searched and/or you can have google include synonyms(or what google considers synonyms for your site keyword) for the root word you entered. This tool will come in handy when both finding and choosing keywords.
Also this tool gives you information on three useful things. It give you information on approximate search volume(for google only), search volume trends, and which month historically provides the most search volume for that keyword.
How To Select Keywords Effectively
In order to get the most out of your pages you need be effective when choosing keywords to focus your pages around. In order to pick the best onea you have to know information such as: number of times searched, competition for that keyword, and how well it fits in with your site concept.
There is no way to know how many times a day a certain phrase was searched. There is no way you can see every computer user using a search engie to figure out how many times a certain term is searched per day. Instead what you have to do is pay for a service that will assist you in choosing keywords. You need a service to help you find the most profitable keywords.
